World War II & 1940s Day

I instigated and managed an intergenerational WW2 Remembered event at the Mission to Seafarers in Newport involving:

  • Two local primary schools
  • Seniors from Charter’s sheltered housing complexes
  • Usk Rural Life Museum
  • The Homefront Society
  • Hopping Mad - a dancing duo specialising in 1940s dances

The aim of the project was to help the children understand what life was like during the War, and as a reminiscence opportunity for the seniors to acknowledge the many facets of life during this period.

The event included stalls with lots of memorabilia from the 1940s – gas masks, uniforms which the children were able to try on, toys and games, and of course food – spam sandwiches, Marmite soldiers and vinegar cake which some of the seniors had prepared for everyone to sample and went down a treat!
